My Cartoon Series: Xylus & Dexter in Space! Ep5 - Laser Tag
Overview
Episode 5 of the internet cartoon series I made at the end of 2003 called Xylus and Dexter in Space! It starred my kids Xylus and Dexter. At this time the shows were continuing through 2004.

Concept
In this Episode: The boys search the castle and meet the "The Ghost".

I also started trying out drawing the backgrounds in flash instead of inking them, scanning them and coloring them in flash. I had not really captured the grit of a drawn background and learned from this episode that I needed to work on how to translate the detail from the drawn backgrounds to computer only drawings. The characters themselves were still being drawn and scanned from ink on paper at this point.
Animation
There's a lot of walking and running in this episode so I had to time the animation by feel as there was not really a way to match it up to any audio. So I took the storyboard scenes and created a film loop in a video editing program to work out the timing.
The episode was actually shorter than the usual 2 min so at the end I added a tribute to the old Flinstones TV commercials for Winston Cigarettes they used to play during the show.
Audio
I had to do mostly foley work for the audio on this one. Adding the sound effects and random character reactions to the scenes after they were animated.
