Montmartre Flyer Art June 7, 2008
Here's a recent flyer I made for an upcoming show I have with my band Lorenzo's Music using GIMP.
I've been busy working on another art project and didn't have much time. So Instead of my usual inked character drawing style I opted for a traced photo effect I made from of an old hotel sign I had found on Roadsidepictures Flickr stream.
Then I created a 2 new layers underneath. On one I filled with a mesh pattern in black and white and set the layer setting to "screen" so it would lighten to layers under it. And the one under that I filled with yellow.
Next I created a layer for the text on top and set the layer as multiply so the line art of the sign would show through. Then I used a textured eraser on different areas of the text to give it a worn look.
But I wanted to make sure the text wouldn't be buried in the background image. So I created a new layer, also set to multiply using the same font and off set the text 5px to the right and bottom. Now the overlying text lets the one underneath bleed through giving it a double print effect.
I repeated this for both bands text and added a new normal setting layer above it for all the time and dates.
It's a style I've been wanting to try for a while and I was pretty happy with it.
